Paris

After nearly 10 years I was given the opportunity to return to Paris in July 2015. Things have moved on in my photography. I had previously shot 35mm film in the grey wintertime and to be honest the results weren’t very good……….plus the photos are sitting somewhere in a darkened corner of the attic.

I was now back with a shiny new Canon EOS 70D which I bought just a few days before boarding the plane. Also my first Canon so there was some furious manual reading being done.

I don’t need to tell you about the sights as they are world renowned. 2 places I would suggest being on the ‘must do’ list is firstly to visit the Trocadero. Here you will get the best views of the Eiffel Tower. Don’t forget to go back at night time as there is a fantastic light display on the hour each hour. Secondly if for no other reason than to watch the world go by with a cheeky wee vino is Montmartre. Sit down in one of the street cafes (remember your wallet!!) and take in the splendour of Place du Tertre with its portrait artists. About a massive 30secs walk away is Sacre Coeur. Sit on the steps here with the young locals and tourists alike with a wee bottle of wine ( you sensing a theme here??).

If you are going for the Tour de France I stood at the Jardin des Tuileries on the Rue de Rivoli. It is quieter here and you will get right up against the barriers for your photos. They do 10 circuits around here so plenty of opportunities. Set yourself up a fast shutter speed because they go past at some rate.

Paris is a photographers heaven. Don’t miss out on a marvellous experience.
