Edinburgh
As the city where i did most of my growing up i’d recommend using Edinburgh as a base.
Visit during the yearly Fringe festival and you will see a vibrant city with locals and tourists alike enjoying a good time. It lays host to the world famous castle and the Royal Mile. Climb Arthurs Seat for a panoramic view of the city.
Close by and within easy reach you can see the 3 bridges including the world famous Forth Rail Bridge. Drop by the old village of Cramond for a look.
East Lothian is a beautiful area to visit with its stunning coastline and red tiled villages. North Berwick should be top of the list with views across to the Bass Rock and nearby Tantallon Castle. The nearby local air museum has one of the Concorde airplanes on show
